Netflix Breaks A Rule With ‘Untamed' Season 2

Untamed Well, I've previously said that if a show performs well enough, it can expand beyond just being a planned-out, one-off miniseries and find renewal. And that's exactly what's just happened on Netflix. After nearly two weeks on top of its Top 10 list, Netflix has in fact broken its 'limited series' rule and has greenlit Untamed season 2, a sequel to its murder mystery series starring Eric Bana who will return, rather than this being a totally new cast with a totally new mystery. It will, however, be a new national park, indicating most of the cast besides Bana will be left behind. Bana initially seemed a bit passive when it came to the idea of Untamed season 2, saying it hadn't really been considered at the time, but now? He's pumped: 'I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of 'Untamed' to life,' Eric Bana told Variety, 'The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can't wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.' And here's co-showrunner Mark L. Smith, speaking to Netflix's blog Tudum: 'Elle and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes,' Mark L. Smith said. 'But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, 'Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?' " Untamed I think having a 'great cast' is somewhat secondary to getting huge viewership, and Netflix saying 'ok do another season,' but the end result is the same. We also already know a bit about the plot of season 2, which will involve Bana's character heading to a different national park besides Yosemite: 'Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite,' Mark said. 'He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we're] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable … This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he's kind of finding his way.' Smith does go on to say that maybe they will try to find a way to bring some cast members back to the show, despite being in an entirely new location. The best bet would be Turner's ex-wife, whom he would likely still have a relationship with in some capacity. Many other characters ended up dead, but big supporting character, Naya Vasquez, would take a back-bending plotline to end up in the new park as anything more than a guest star. It's almost certain that season 2 is going to be a 95% new cast. There is no timeline on when Untamed season 2 will arrive. Given that this was never the plan, and they now have to come up with a new story, best guess is at least a year and a half from now, if not two years, which is streaming standard these days. Furiosa, Bullet Train headline our list of action movies on HBO Max to watch (July 2025)

Although it might have a branding problem, it's hard to deny HBO Max's library when you get into the app. The streaming service has a deep vault of classic films that are catnip for me, but just as crucially, they have plenty of recent blockbusters that are worth your time. If you're looking for action this July we've pulled together three movies that fit the bill perfectly, regardless of what you're looking for: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Aquaman (2018) Just as Superman has reminded us all that superhero movies are supposed to be silly, Aquaman did the same thing all the way back in 2018. This film, which stars Jason Momoa as the king of the sea, follows Arthur Curry as he comes into conflict with his half-brother and ultimately accepts his mantle as the king of Atlantis. Along the way, we get time with Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, and a variety of delightful undersea critters. Aquaman is not ultimately a very serious movie, but it matches the energy of Momoa perfectly, and as a result, it's a hugely entertaining one. You can watch Aquaman on HBO Max. Bullet Train (2022) You might have thought that Brad Pitt was past the point in his career where he could lead an all-out action comedy, but you would be mistaken. Bullet Train sees Pitt playing an assassin who wants to change. He hops on a bullet train and finds himself face-to-face with people who are after the same thing he's looking for. Featuring some expertly choreographed fight scenes, a zippy pace, and a satisfying conclusion, Bullet Train is exactly the kind of lighthearted action movie that we simply don't get enough of anymore, and it features a great ensemble cast. You can watch Bullet Train on HBO Max. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) When you're following up on one of the greatest action movies ever made, you're almost destined for failure. In spite of those lofty expectations, Furiosa turned out to be a hugely successful movie in its own right. This prequel tells the story of Furiosa before the events of Fury Road in five heartbreaking chapters. The film is less all-out action-forward than Fury Road, but it still has several of the best car chase sequences of the decade. Even better is Anya Taylor-Joy's central performance, which feels destined to stand the test of time. You can watch Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga on HBO Max.

HBO Max Cancels Series After One Season

Sadly, HBO Max has made the decision to cancel one of their series after releasing only one season on their platform. The series finale was released not even a full week before the announcement was released. The network obviously didn't want to keep fans hanging for more. This news may be disappointing for viewers who tuned into the series since it first started airing in May. Now, after a mere two months following its initial release on HBO Max, the series has come to a complete end without any possibility of a continuation. For such a quick cancellation, it can be disappointing to remember how long it took the show to get off the ground in the first place. The show's development can be traced back to 2020 before it was finally ordered in 2023. The series was part of a deal between J.J. Abram's Bad Robot label and Warner Bros. going back to 2019, and in 2025, the series remains the only series to have come to fruition out of their contract. As shared via Variety: 'The 1970s crime series ' Duster ' has been canceled at HBO Max after just one season.' The outlet included the following statement from HBO Max regarding the cancellation: 'While HBO Max will not be moving forward with a second season of ' Duster ,' we are so grateful to have had the chance to work with the amazingly talented co-creators J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, and our partners at Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television,' the streamer shared. 'We are tremendously proud of this series led by Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson and we thank them along with our cast and crew for their incredible collaboration and partnership.' WBTV thanked J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan in addition to the cast and crew of the series for their work on Duster: 'J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan delivered a thrilling, multi-dimensional crime drama in ' Duster ,' with textured characters that took the audience back to the 1970s in a new and innovative way,' WBTV added. 'Those characters were brought to life by a wonderful team led by Josh, Rachel, and an extremely talented ensemble cast, along with an expert crew behind the scenes. We are incredibly proud of the show, and while we wish this journey could continue, we are thankful to our partners at HBO Max for the opportunity to tell Jim and Nina's story.' It's an unfortunate result of the competitive nature of streaming and how platforms curate content. While Duster won't be returning for another season, at least it was able to finally make it to the screen at all. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more news regarding the latest cancellations and renewals in the world of streaming and television.

Hollywood costume designer Orry-Kelly celebrated in home town

He dressed the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis, but while Australian-born costume designer Orry-Kelly is one of the country's most prolific Oscar winners, many people have never heard of him. Born Orry George Kelly in Kiama on the south coast of NSW in December 1897, the Hollywood costume designer worked on more than 300 films. He was the chief costume designer for Warner Bros. Studios from 1932 to 1944, worked on the iconic film Casablanca and won Oscars for Best Costume Design for An American in Paris in 1951, Les Girls in 1957 and Some Like It Hot in 1959. Following his death in 1964, Orry-Kelly was mourned by Hollywood society but Australia remained largely oblivious to his remarkable life. His pallbearers included actors Cary Grant (who Orry-Kelly described in his memoir as having a lifelong relationship with) and Tony Curtis, filmmaker Billy Wilder and director George Cukor. Ms Eggins said while Kelly was still "the forgotten man", an exhibition and gala in his home town of Kiama later this month aimed to change that. Ms Eggins is president of the Kiama Historical Society and a member of Kiama Icons and Artists, which promotes local art and culture. She said Orry-Kelly was largely forgotten locally until a 1994 Vogue article by Karin Upton Baker, edited by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, winner of four Academy Awards in film design. "It had photos and stories, and since then I've discovered more and given hundreds of talks about him. "I love him. I'm passionate about him," she laughed. Orry-Kelly's work displayed a diligence and creativity he no doubt inherited from his father William Kelly, a tailor in Kiama. Mr Kelly put his son's talents to use by having him paint portraits of his customers. "Clients got a new suit and a painting, so there are a lot of portraits around the district," Ms Eggins said. When he was 17, Orry-Kelly was sent to Sydney to study banking, however Ms Eggins said he ended up being paid by women to take them dancing. "He was a very good dancer and got caught up in the underworld of Sydney, the sly grog and all of that," she said. "In his autobiography, he remembers what the prostitutes in Sydney were wearing and they became inspirations for some of his costumes. Orry-Kelly moved to New York at 22, where he met a young actor who would later change his name to Cary Grant. The pair relocated to Los Angles in 1931 where both their careers took off. Orry-Kelly worked on silent films at first, becoming the chief designer for Warner Bros. in 1932. "He drank it, he partied, he bought a big house, he had pets and generally wasted a lot of it. "He was a very big drinker, an alcoholic and that's where a lot of his money went." By 1944 Orry-Kelly worked for 20th Century Fox, then Universal until 1950, followed by freelancing until he died of live cancer, aged 66, in 1964. When he died, Orry-Kelly's three Oscars went to movie tycoon Jack Warner's wife Anne but have since vanished. "We are looking for the Oscars," Ms Eggins said. "In 2015 the Oscars were in Ann Warner's box, then they were borrowed by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image [ACMI] who displayed them, but said they sent them back." "At that time, Film and Sound Archives [the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia or NFSA] in Canberra were trying to get the Oscars to stay in Australia, but as far as I know, they didn't," she said. "We think they've gone back to the storerooms at Warner Bros." The ABC contacted ACMI, the NFSA and Warner Bros. Discovery; none could clarify the Oscars' whereabouts. An event celebrating the costumer designer, the Orry-Kelly Dressing Hollywood Gala, will be held in Kiama on July 26. "We'll display original paintings and gowns with a gala that evening," the event's organiser Catherine Menzies said. A Q&A panel will feature Gillian Armstrong, who directed the 2015 documentary Women He's Undressed about Orry-Kelly's life, as well as the film's producer Damien Parer and screenwriter Katherine Thomson, who discovered Orry-Kelly's manuscript, which was published as an autobiography and later inspired the film. Ms Menzies said the aim is for the gala to become an annual event. "Hopefully it can become a thing for Kiama; what better way to honour somebody like Orry-Kelly than glamour," she said. "He was making people look good [and] feel good. I can't think of a better way to have fun, but honour him."
